Lake Erie was 15th nationally for developmental toxicants with 3,733 pounds released and 21st for reproductive toxicant releases with 1,597 pounds discharged, according to the report from Environment America, a nonprofit environmental advocacy group.

“It’s 40 years after the Clean Water Act. We can do better than that,” said report co-author Shelley Vinyard, Environment America’s clean water advocate.

“We did the report because we felt that it’s important for people to know this. It’s important for people to know how much pollution enters their waterways.”
