It’s been a serious nightmare
Climate change is already harming our families and friends. That's why we're working hard on climate solutions.
Back in January, my running buddy and his wife moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, for work. And because they love the mountains. We’ve kept in touch sharing our workouts and race results.
He’s someone who runs every day, although lately he’s had problems running at all. The air quality in parts of Colorado have become dangerous for even healthy people like my friend who texts me crazy things like, “I just ran 26.2 miles in the mountains because I felt like running a marathon.”
You’ve probably seen the record setting wildfires in California this year made worse by climate change. Colorado is also experiencing a record setting fire season related to the heat and drought caused by climate change. The other day he texted me a picture of Fort Collins. That haze is the smoke from wildfires miles away. He then sent me a screen capture of how hazardous it was to simply breath the air. At “315” the air is “Health warnings…,” for exposure for one day at these levels. As he put it, “It’s been a serious nightmare.”
This is yet another example of how climate change is already harming us. Scientists are telling us it will only get worse. That’s why we’re pushing for climate solutions by advocating for renewable energy and zero carbon transportation. We’re working to bridge the divide between people to get things done. Our earth, and our families, can’t wait.
