Groups to Senate: Don’t roll back energy efficiency
Advocates urge senators to oppose efforts that would undo the Department of Energy's furnace efficiency standards.
Environment America and U.S. PIRG joined ten other environmental and consumer advocacy groups on a letter to lawmakers urging them to oppose a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution being led by Sen. Ted Cruz to overturn the Biden administration’s energy efficiency standards for gas furnaces.
“We urge Senators to oppose this resolution because it would increase affected households’ utility bills by $50 per year,” said Abe Scarr, Utilities Program Director for U.S. PIRG.
The gas industry, which has long opposed furnace efficiency standards and has sued to stop the rule, is lobbying Congress to undo the furnace efficiency standards.
“Turning up the heat in our homes shouldn’t mean turning up levels of pollution,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of Environment America’s Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy. “We urge a no vote.”
