Will your next car be electric? Bipartisan bill would make it easier.
New car buyers who want to do their part on climate change will have more incentive to buy electric if a new bill becomes law.
Car buyers who want to do their part on climate change will have more incentive to buy electric if a new bill becomes law.
In June, our national network’s Clean Car Communities director, Morgan Folger, met with members of Congress to urge their support of the Driving America Forward Act. Under current law, people who buy electric vehicles (EVs) are eligible for a tax credit of up to $7,500. But the credit applies only to the first 200,000 cars sold by each manufacturer. The Driving America Forward Act would offer a $7,000 credit to an additional 400,000 cars per manufacturer.
“One of the best things we can do to solve the climate crisis is get more clean, electric cars on the road,” Morgan said.
The bill has bipartisan support in the Senate, with Democratic Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters (both of Mich.), and Republican Sens. Lamar Alexander (Tenn.) and Susan Collins (Maine).
