Key House committee approves major clean energy tax credit extension
We’re on the brink of the largest-ever federal investment in clean energy.
We’re on the brink of the largest-ever federal investment in clean energy.
On Sept. 15, the House Ways and Means Committee advanced legislation that would extend and update critical tax incentives for solar, wind and electric vehicles. Similar clean energy investments have grown our nation’s solar power by 52% annually and tripled our wind energy since 2009. In addition to boosting clean energy, the bill also reinstates a toxic waste cleanup program and could raise $80 billion by repealing a tax loophole that advantaged fossil fuel companies.
“A future powered by renewable energy is within reach, and tax incentives are a proven mechanism that will help get us there,” said Johanna Neumann, Environment America’s 100% Renewable senior campaign director. “By advancing a 10-year extension for a suite of clean energy tax incentives, Congress is laying a strong foundation for a renewable energy future.”
The bill now heads to the full U.S. House of Representatives for a vote.
