Environment America and EnergySage announce partnership to help more Americans adopt solar power

Environment America

BOSTON – In an effort to help more Americans research and adopt solar energy for their homes and businesses, Environment America and EnergySage announced a new partnership today. Environment America will encourage its members and the general public to use the EnergySage platform to find the right solar installation option in their area.

“Millions of Americans would love to go solar at home or at work, but don’t know where to begin,” said Rob Sargent, energy program director with Environment America. “EnergySage makes it easier to find the right solar option for you. And making it easier for everybody to go solar will help achieve our goal of 100 percent renewable energy.”

EnergySage is an online comparison-shopping marketplace for rooftop solar, community solar, and solar financing. Similar to shopping for a flight or hotel room, the marketplace is unique in that it allows consumers to request and compare competing quotes online from multiple solar installers.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with an influential non-profit that closely aligns with our goals and is helping to drive the country towards a 100 percent renewable energy future,” said John Gingrich, senior vice president for strategic partnerships at EnergySage. “Now the trusted source of solar information for over a million solar shoppers annually, EnergySage serves as an advocate for consumers by making the process of going solar as simple and affordable as possible.”

Backed by the U.S. Department of Energy and with a growing network of more than 350 pre-screened solar installation companies, EnergySage facilitated solar projects that generated over 25,000 tons of CO2 emissions reductions in 2016. EnergySage is recommended by over 50 prominent organizations including non-profits, utilities, municipalities, and corporations that utilize the EnergySage platform to help their employees, customers, members, residents, etc. better understand their solar energy options.

“EnergySage allowed me to be 100 percent in control of the whole process,” said Deborah Basler, Connecticut resident and Solarize U participant, a program built by Yale University and EnergySage. “I was able to get answers to all of my questions and had access to the information I needed to make an informed decision. Everything from the equipment to the installation company could be compared online very easily. This program made me feel more confident about going solar.”

Solar power is growing rapidly around the United States. In 2016, solar was the number one new source of electric generating capacity installed. Today, solar installed in America powers the equivalent of 8.3 million homes.

“We’ll continue to push for good policies that help solar to grow,” said Sargent. “At the same time, we’ll provide tools like EnergySage so more Americans can put solar panels on their roofs and ramp up the amount of solar power in their neighborhoods.”
