Schools can now apply for electric school bus funds

School districts can now apply for rebates to cover the cost of electric school buses. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is accepting applications for this year’s Clean School Bus Program until August 19, 2022.

This new program, created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed into law by President Joe Biden last November, will help school districts replace polluting diesel buses with zero-tailpipe-emission, electric school buses.

Over 120 school officials, alongside Environment America and U.S. PIRG, called on Congress to fund electric school buses in July 2021. Now those same officials can take advantage of this opportunity to bring electric buses to their students. 

“The EPA’s program to cut school bus emissions and get more electric buses on the road is a huge step forward,” said Morgan Folger, Environment America’s Destination: Zero Carbon campaign director. “It’s good for the climate, our kids’ health and for clean air in our communities. That’s a win-win-win for everybody.”
