The Governor’s Announcement is an Important Step Forward
Environment Nevada
Governor Sisolak announced the formation of a new “Nevada Climate Initiative” or NCI as the state’s latest effort to take a bold stance toward addressing climate change on Monday. In announcing the initiative, the Governor’s team unveiled ClimateAction.nv.gov to serve as the main hub for Nevada’s climate-related efforts.
The NCI’s first main agenda item is holding a series of listening sessions to “help inform and guide Nevada’s climate action.” According to the Governor’s office, the listening sessions and surveys promoted by the initiative will “provide the needed framework for Nevada policymakers to evaluate the alignment of various climate policies and programs” as the administration continues to pursue climate policy as a key priority since Governor Sisolak was sworn in almost 20 months ago.
“We whole-heartedly support the effort put forward by the Governor’s office,” said Levi Kamolnick, Environment Nevada State Director, “Nevadans, like all Americans, need a robust, deliberate strategy to combat what is poised to be the most menacing threat to survival humans have ever faced. We applaud this move as well as the other strong steps the governor has taken on climate since coming into office, but it’s critical that we continue to press forward as one of the sunniest states in the country feels the impacts of climate change every day. We look forward to seeing how the NCI shapes the state’s climate strategy going forward and we will continue to advocate for a cleaner, greener economy.”
