The state of Nevada joined more than a dozen states on Monday, in a commitment to reduce air pollution as well as Nevada’s carbon footprint.
Governor Sisolak’s administration signed on to both Low-Emission Vehicle (LEV) standards, as well as the Zero-Emission Vehicle (ZEV) program, requiring automakers to increase availability of both cleaner-burning vehicles as well as hybrids and fully electric vehicles.
A diverse group of 67 businesses, agencies, and organizations, including Environment Nevada,, known as the Nevada Clean Cars Coalition, released a letter in support of the adoption of such regulations by the governor and praised the move as a major victory for clean energy advocates.
In response, Environment Nevada State Director Levi Kamolnick released the following statement:
“Governor Sisolak and his administration have continued to press forward toward a more renewable, less fossil-fuel driver economy. The adoption of these new vehicle standards is a huge move toward the ambitious targets laid out by Nevada legislators in the 2019 session. As our state continues to grow, it’s imperative that Nevada families are offered a variety of transportation options that includes low-emission and zero-emission vehicles.”
