Statement: Environment Nevada applauds passage of clean electricity bill

LAS VEGAS — Gov. Steve Sisolak signed a bill into law on Monday that instructs Nevada electricity providers to obtain at least 50 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Looking further ahead, it sets a goal of 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2050. SB 358 passed both the state house and senate unanimously.
Environment Nevada director Levi Kamolnick issued the following statement in response:
“With Nevada’s abundance of sunshine, the Silver State is rightfully focusing on increasing its use of clean renewable energy. Environment Nevada applauds Gov. Sisolak and state legislators for their forward thinking to ensure that we maximize these resources.
“In the absence of federal leadership, states need to step up and act on the climate. By committing to 50 percent renewable electricity by 2030 and setting a 100 percent goal by 2050, our state has joined the top tier of state clean energy leaders and is sending a message that we’re serious about tackling climate change.”
