Wind power

America has an almost unlimited resource of wind blowing off our coasts and across our lands, and we can use it to power more of our lives.

Wind power is a key ingredient for a clean and renewable energy future. It’s a huge new harvest from America’s fields, farms and coasts. America produced enough wind energy to power 35 million typical homes in 2021 – 2.7 times as much wind energy as in 2012.

With Offshore Wind Port Groundbreaking, Supply Chain Will Allow NJ To Meet Its Clean, Renewable Energy Mandate

On the banks of the Delaware Bay Shore, Governor Phil Murphy with Senate President Steve Sweeney and the U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh and a bevy of state leaders broke ground for the New Jersey Wind Port, which will serve as a marshalling headquarters for the offshore wind supply chain. The industrial facility will be constructed on site and will serve as a hub for the offshore wind turbines to be constructed off Atlantic City and the Jersey Shore.

BOEM Kick-Off Meeting on Ocean Wind is Next Step To Make Wind Energy Real Off the Jersey Shore

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) hosted a virtual public scoping meeting in regards to the Ocean Wind Energy Facility off the Jersey Shore. The meetings are designed to help BOEM determine the important factors to be considered in the Environmental Impact Statement that must be conducted before any offshore wind project can move forward with construction. The Ocean Wind Energy Facility is planned 15 miles southeast of Atlantic City and should produce 1100 MW of electricity, which is enough to power approximately 500,000 homes. This is the first offshore wind project in New Jersey, which is being developed by Orsted.

Time For Turbines 4, Jan. 26 & 27

Time for Turbines is an annual conference that brings together policymakers, labor and environmental advocates and wind energy professionals to discuss current issues and opportunities in New Jersey’s rapidly expanding offshore wind industry. This year's virtual conference -- on Jan. 26 and Jan. 27 -- will focus on workforce development and equity in the offshore wind industry, with an emphasis on identifying access barriers to jobs in this field and offering policy solutions. We’ll hear from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority about the launch of the cutting-edge Wind Institute, which will coordinate R&D and workforce development specifically for offshore wind. It’s been a big year for offshore wind, so we’ll also hear the latest information on the NJ Wind Port, the state’s progress toward 7500 megawatts by 2035 and commitments made to ensure that this new industry benefits local NJ communities and powers clean, renewable energy. You can register for the event at www.timeforturbines.org.
