Bipartisan group of mayors call on Congress to extend solar tax credit

WASHINGTON — A bipartisan group of more than 230 mayors called on federal lawmakers Monday to support the continued growth of clean energy and extend the investment tax credit (ITC). The ITC, which allows customers to save 30 percent on new solar installation costs, is set to begin decreasing to 10 percent value at the end of this year.

Specifically, the coalition of mayors are calling for a five year extension of the ITC program.

“Accelerating the growth of solar not only means cleaner air and a healthier environment, but also a more resilient grid. Tax incentives have played a large role in spurring the growth of renewables, which now make up nearly 10 percent of our nation’s electricity. We stand with the mayors from Washington to Florida who want to see these incentives continue to bring solar energy and its many benefits into their communities.”
