Oregon commits to 100 percent clean electricity by 2040

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown celebrated the signing of a bill committing electricity providers to deliver 100 percent clean power to Oregon customers by 2040 into law at a ceremony on Tuesday. The move builds on a national trend, as it makes Oregon the eighth state to enact a legislative commitment to 100 percent clean or renewable electricity.

New Jersey governor signs law to replace lead pipes, protect drinking water

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill into law on Thursday requiring water utilities to replace all lead pipes providing drinking water (called “service lines”) within the next decade.

House votes to empower EPA to clean up PFAS “forever chemicals”

On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the bipartisan PFAS Action Act, introduced by Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI) and Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI). The bill would designate two types of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) as hazardous under the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Superfund program, and set a five-year deadline to decide whether to reclassify other PFAS as well.
