WASHINGTON, D.C. — Anna Aurilio, director of Environment America’s Washington, D.C. office, issued the following statement in response to President Obama releasing his annual budget proposal:

“President Obama’s proposed budget would help safeguard America’s land, water, and climate for future generations. Investments in a greener future are the smart thing to do, and the right thing to do.

“In his State of the Union address, President Obama said that ‘no challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change.’ To combat that threat, we must continue to accelerate America’s clean energy revolution. That’s why his proposals to increase spending on clean energy research, permanently extend clean energy tax incentives, and incentivize states to exceed their carbon reduction goals are so important.

“We also firmly support the budget’s full funding of our nations’ most successful public lands preservation program, expanded investment in our national parks, and investment in infrastructure that will help protect America’s waters.

“A bipartisan majority of the Senate voted to invest in our parks just last week, and a proposal to invest in clean energy also drew bipartisan support. Congress should work together to pass these investments in America’s green future.”
