Statement: Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee should recommend Tracy Stone-Manning as director of the Bureau of Land Management

Stone-Manning would bring conservation experience and focus to the bureau

DENVER — The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee will hold a hearing on Tuesday to consider the nomination of Tracy Stone-Manning to be director of the Bureau of Land Management. Stone-Manning has served as associate vice president for public lands at the National Wildlife Federation, the chief of staff for Montana Gov. Steve Bullock and director of the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.

The Bureau of Land Management manages one in every 10 acres of land in the United States and will be a critical player in implementing President Joe Biden’s American the Beautiful plan to conserve 30 percent of U.S. lands and waters by 2030.

Steve Blackledge, senior director for Environment America’s conservation program, issued the following statement: 

“Tracy Stone-Manning is the right choice to lead the Bureau of Land Management. We need leaders who are committed to protecting ‘America the Beautiful’ and managing our public lands for both the benefit of wildlife and the enjoyment of all Americans, now and for future generations. Stone-Manning will be an excellent addition to the team at the Department of the Interior and will bring her vast experience and conservation values to this role. 

“We urge the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee to recommend Stone-Manning.”
