House panel advances fix-it-first, carbon-conscious approach to transportation

In a bipartisan vote, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee advanced the “Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America) Act” early Thursday morning. As part of that “new vision,” in a departure from past transportation bills, it emphasizes fixing existing infrastructure before building new highways.

Statement: House panel takes valuable step toward reversing catastrophic methane rule

The House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced a resolution on Thursday which would undo a Trump-era rollback of methane emission controls. If the full House passes the resolution and President Joe Biden signs it, the Environmental Protection Agency would need to reinstate regulations governing the emission of methane, a highly potent greenhouse gas, at oil and gas production sites.

Statement: Bipartisan bill a big leap forward for America’s clean water infrastructure

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee advanced the Water Quality Protection and Job Creation Act of 2021 (H.R. 1915) on Wednesday. The bill would authorize $40 billion over five years for the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) program that provides communities with low-cost financing for clean water infrastructure projects. Additionally, H.R. 1915 includes provisions designed to both assist small or financially disadvantaged communities and dedicate 15 percent of the funding to state grants for green infrastructure improvements.

Statement: EPA to repeal and replace the Dirty Water Rule

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers announced steps Wednesday to repeal and replace the Trump administration’s Navigable Waters Protection Rule. The rule left half the nation’s remaining wetlands and thousands of streams without federal protection under the Clean Water Act.  Environment America and other groups have asked a court to overturn the rule.
