President Obama & EPA Protect Public Health, Announce Landmark Mercury Standard for Power Plants

Today, President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the first-ever nationwide standard for mercury and air toxics pollution from power plants. A record 907,000 Americans submitted comments on the standard, which is expected to cut toxic mercury pollution from power plants by 90 percent.

House Leadership Seeks to Hijack Spending Bill to Block Energy Saving Light Bulbs

The House of Representatives is reportedly pushing a rollback of energy saving standards for light bulbs in the omnibus spending bill being debated in Congress.   If successful, they will repeal energy efficiency standards for light bulbs that were originally passed with industry support and a large bipartisan majority in 2007.  According to a study by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy the standards could lead to $11.9 billion per year in energy savings when fully instituted.

House Votes for Dirtier Water and More Dirty Energy

Today, the U.S. House passed the Fiscal Year 2012 Energy and Water Development Appropriations bill (HR 2354).  The bill would make large cuts the Department of Energy budget, especially to energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.
