Later this July, the International Seabed Authority’s Assembly of member states will meet to discuss the future of deep-sea mining. The deep-sea mining proposals on the table risk damaging vibrant ecosystems that science is just beginning to understand. As a recent report from Environment America Research & Policy Center, U.S. PIRG Education Fund and Frontier Group argues, we don’t need to mine the ocean floor to obtain critical minerals for clean energy technologies–and we have better alternatives.

Ahead of the ISA Assembly’s session, join us to hear experts discuss the damage deep sea mining could do in our ocean, why it’s not the answer to our critical mineral needs and some of the alternatives at our fingertips. Following our panel discussion, members of the media will have an opportunity to ask questions of the experts.

Speakers:
Kelsey Lamp, Director, Protect Our Oceans Campaign, Environment America Research & Policy Center
Nathan Proctor, Senior Director, Campaign for the Right to Repair, U.S. PIRG Education Fund
Tony Dutzik, Associate Director and Senior Policy Analyst, Frontier Group
Maddie Warner, Program Manager, The Ocean Foundation
