Renewable energy is on the rise in Ohio. Yesterday, the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPB) announced that it was approving two new solar farms, adding 600MW of renewable energy to the grid and the capacity to store 200MW of power as well.
That’s welcome growth for renewable energy in Ohio. According to our Renewables on the Rise dashboard, Ohio met only 2% of its retail electricity sales with renewables in 2021, 11 percentage points lower than the national average. Ohio ranked 23rd in the nation for solar energy growth between 2012 and 2021 and battery storage in the state hasn’t grown significantly since 2017.
