New poll shows strong support for Owyhee Canyonlands National Monument
A majority of Oregonians throughout the state and across party lines, support President Biden designating the Owyhee Canyonlands as a national monument.

A new poll by Expedition Strategies for the Oregon League of Conservation Voters reveals 73% of Oregonians support President Biden designating the Owyhee Canyonlands as a national monument. This support spans across party lines, with 95% of Democrats, 76% of Independents, and 40% of Republicans in favor. Additionally, 58% of voters in eastern Oregon back the designation.
Despite efforts by Senators Wyden and Merkley, Congressional gridlock persists, and threats to the Owyhee, such as insufficient management resources, rising temperatures, and potential industrial development, continue to grow. The poll shows Oregonians prioritize wildlife protection (92%), access to public lands for recreation (83%), and safeguarding natural areas from industrial development (81%).
As a member of the The Protect the Owyhee Canyonlands coalition, we’re continuing to urge Senators Wyden and Merkley to work with President Biden to establish the Owyhee Canyonlands National Monument before the end of 2024.
