As part of our ongoing campaign to Save Oregon’s Oldest Trees, along with the Climate Forest Coalition, Environment Oregon staff and volunteers have continued connecting with the Oregonians to educate and activate more people to sign our petition to the Biden Administration to protect old-growth and mature forests and trees on federal lands across the country.

With the public comment period closing Sept. 20, and millions of acres of our oldest forests at stake, our dedicated canvassers have been out in full force, engaging thousands of Oregonians at their doors and conservation intern, Kayla Beaird has been reaching more folks through public events at Portland-area farmers markets, at Patagonia’s downtown Portland store and through a screening of “Crown Jewels,” at the Beaverton REI.

Conservation Intern Kayla Beaird hosted a screening of the film by renowned environmental activist Alex Haraus and cinematographers Aidan Kranz and Elena Jean who spent the last year exploring some of the last remaining ancient forests on public lands in the U.S.

Carrying thousands of Oregonians’ voices with her, Kayla met with Ryan Tuhill, Field Representative, in the office of U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer, to emphasize the ecological importance of these ancient forests and highlight the need for the representative’s support to ensure the preservation of old-growth and mature forests and trees in Oregon and across the country.
