DENVER — Today, Environment America endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden for president of the United States, in anticipation of his acceptance of his nomination.

“Joe Biden is a leader and a bridge-builder. He can and will do what it takes to protect our air, land and water for future generations,” said Environment America Acting President Wendy Wendlandt. “From his years in Congress, Joe Biden has a track record of staunchly defending our public lands. As vice president, he helped shape the 2012 federal Clean Cars standards. And he has committed to restore America’s leadership on global climate change by achieving 100 percent clean electricity by 2035.”

“And Kamala Harris has her own environmental credentials. From aggressive legal action against polluters as California Attorney General to her role as an original co-sponsor of the Green New Deal for comprehensive climate action, she has a record of standing up for the environment.”

Doug Phelps, chairman of Environment America added:  “Over the last four years, Donald Trump has endeavored to dismantle or declaw at least 100 federal environmental safeguards, many of which our members and supporters have worked and fought for over the last four decades. We can’t let that continue. But this election is not just about preventing further destruction. It’s also about building a “green wave” of popular support for environmental protections — the wave we’ll need to ensure a better future in the decades to come.”

“As environmental advocates, it’s our responsibility to build that green wave, but we need leaders who will seal the deal. Joe Biden is an organizer. He has a track record of bridges built, relationships forged, battles turned to partnerships. To come together as a nation to get the job done, we’re going to need Joe Biden.”
