Release: New interactive map highlights renewable energy projects across Pennsylvania

Renewable energy, energy efficiency case studies from all 67 counties

PHILADELPHIA – PennEnvironment Research & Policy Center unveiled Clean Energy Commonwealth on Tuesday This new interactive map highlights one renewable energy or energy efficiency project in each county of the Keystone State, showing the vibrancy and growth of the clean energy sector across Pennsylvania.

“From Erie County to Philadelphia County and from Wayne County to Greene County, exciting renewable energy projects are on the rise in counties all across the Keystone State,” said Ellie Kerns, the climate field associate with PennEnvironment Research & Policy Center. “In red, blue and purple counties, and across rural, suburban and urban counties, Pennsylvania communities are making huge strides to bring wind, solar and energy efficiency projects online at a rapid clip.”

With this map, Pennsylvanians can explore innovative clean energy projects county by county, see what their neighbors are doing already, and learn how they can contribute to the momentum behind clean energy adoption. 

“PennEnvironment continues to be an advocacy leader on renewable energy and combating climate change – and their advocacy work is so important to all of us in Harrisburg fighting for our environment, for clean air and clean water against corporate interests and industry bankrolled legislators,” Senator Katie Muth (D-Chester/Montgomery/Berks) said. “The map released today – highlighting renewable energy projects in all 67 counties – is such a great resource and it shows that in all corners of the state from cities to suburbs to rural areas – renewable energy projects work and they make an impact.”

With far-reaching incentives in the new federal Inflation Reduction Act, renewable energy and energy efficiency projects are poised to be even more affordable and accessible to Pennsylvania businesses, residents and even non-profit organizations. This will help Pennsylvanians reduce air and climate pollution, save money on their utility bills, and support the growing clean energy-based economy. 

“As we continue to move the needle towards a clean energy future we’re seeing more customers, especially school districts, realize the financial and environmental benefits of integrating solar and other renewable energy sources into their sustainability plan,” said Dan Pietropola, McClure Company’s Vice President of Business Development.

The total energy production of the projects highlighted in this map is enough to power more than half a million Pennsylvanian homes annually, and these case studies are just the tip of the clean energy iceberg in the Keystone State.

“So much of what we have to do is not come up with new stuff, but to invest in the things that already exist,” said State Representative Chris Rabb. “And we also have to increase our literacy on how and why we need to move to a 100% renewable energy future, because it’s not science fiction. We have all the technology we need right now to get there.”
