I’ve done a lot to make my home eco-friendly, and the federal clean energy tax credits totally helped.

Clean energy

Susan Kaye Quinn, Author and Clean Energy Enthusiast, let us tour her home in South-Western Pennsylvania. Her solar panels, electric vehicle (EV), and garden were visible from the exterior, but the home housed so much more!

Here’s what Susan had to say:

“In the last three years, I’ve been able to put in solar, a home back up battery, heat pump, new insulation, new blinds for my windows cause it gets really hot and they’re south-facing. I have an EV that I power from the sun. All of that works together to “green up” my life.”

Susan shows us her electric vehicle charger. This adapter also helps her use energy from the car to power anything with a plug!

“And there’s just so much more. I think sometimes we don’t realize that we experience the benefits [of clean energy] immediately. You see a plant grow, it’s great. You have an induction cooktop…and that reduces your indoor air pollution. Now you actually breathe cleaner air in your home and in your neighborhood. These things are really important to me.”

Susan is also an accomplished author of “hopeful climate fiction”, a genre of literature about environmentally-positive futures.

“Part of what I’m trying to do with my stories as a writer is to take all of that and figure out what can we do, but also what can’t we do as individuals, and what do we need to demand that our government and companies do. A lot of my stories are talking about not just clean energy but how we have to change ourselves. I worked with some kids in writing hopeful climate fiction because people are like ‘What? What is hopeful climate fiction?’ – it’s about solutions, it’s about struggle. And I told them I don’t really write about climate change, I write about how we have to change.”
