[Pittsburgh, PA] — Ashleigh Deemer is joining the statewide non-profit environmental group PennEnvironment this month as the organization’s Western Pennsylvania Director based in Pittsburgh. Ms. Deemer comes from her previous position as the Chief of Staff for Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak.

“When it comes to social change, protecting our environment and civic participation, Ashleigh has put her money where her mouth is and has a longstanding track record of success,” said David Masur, Executive Director for PennEnvironment. “We could not be more excited to have Ashleigh join the PennEnvironment team and spearhead our work in Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania.”

Prior to joining PennEnvironment, Ms. Deemer was the Chief of Staff for Pittsburgh City Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak from 2012-2017. In this role, Ms. Deemer worked with the Councilwoman to garner media coverage on priority issues for the Councilwoman, launched a “complete streets” initiative in the Council district and helped raise funding for its inception, and worked to mediate efforts between the Councilwoman’s office and constituents.

Preceding Ms. Deemer’s time at Councilwoman Rudiak’s office, she was actively engaged in the non-profit environmental community. This included her role as the Assistant to the National Campaign Director for the national non-profit Clean Air Task Force, and the Program Organizer for Clean Water Action’s Allegheny County Partnership to Reduce Diesel Pollution.

“Ashleigh brings the diversity of skills needed to ensure the success of PennEnvironment’s priority campaigns as Pennsylvania and the nation face such tumultuous times facing our cornerstone environmental policies,” noted Masur. “From helping tackle climate change, halt fracking, protect communities from lead in drinking water and other pressing environmental issues, it’s clear that Ashleigh will serve as a strong advocate on behalf of our members and local citizens when it comes to protecting our environment.”

Ms. Deemer received her undergraduate degree at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, and is currently working on finalizing her Master’s Degree in Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
