[Media, PA] – This Saturday, the statewide environmental group PennEnvironment partnered with State Senator Tim Kearney and State Representative Jennifer O’Mara to host their annual environmental expo promoting green living, environmental advocacy, and renewable energy solutions for Delaware County.

The expo gave local residents the opportunity to explore resources they can use to improve energy efficiency, get involved in local environmental organizations, choose clean energy, and make other green upgrades in their homes and across Delaware County.

“The annual Delco environmental expo offers local residents great tools and tips for protecting our environment and saving money on their electricity bills, so we can all do our part to leave a healthy planet for our kids and future generations,” said Flora Cardoni, Deputy Director at PennEnvironment. “We’re happy to see the growth of the environmental and renewable energy sector throughout Delaware County, and appreciate the leadership of Congresswoman Scanlon, Senator Kearney and Representative O’Mara in championing a cleaner and greener future.”

Attendees met with representatives from dozens of local environmental businesses and nonprofit organizations, whose missions ranged from solar installation to energy efficiency to composting. Local sustainability experts gave advice on installing solar panels and buying renewable electricity, and Drive the Future EV brought a dozen electric vehicles for attendees to check out.

State Senator Tim Kearney talked with attendees about pressing environmental concerns and state policy solutions.

“Events like this remind us that the fight for a cleaner, healthier future is ongoing,” said Senator Kearney  (D-Delaware). “We must stay vigilant, especially as SEPTA’s recent proposed service cuts could potentially put up to 300,00 more cars on the road. Additionally, we can’t let short-sighted policies undo the progress we’ve made on climate, air quality, and our public health. That’s why I’m preparing legislation that gives municipalities the authority to regulate commercial pesticide use in dense residential areas, so long as those rules meet or exceed state standards.”

State Representative Jennifer O’Mara spoke to attendees about working with the legislative climate caucus and larger Delco Delegation to advance state-level clean energy and climate policies and solutions.

“Climate Change is an imminent threat to our health and safety and, as a member of the General Assembly’s Climate Caucus, it is a goal of my office to share sustainable and environmentally friendly options to our community,” said Representative O’Mara (D-Delaware). “I was thrilled to expand this event to do it in partnership with the Delco Delegation so we can reach more people to make a larger difference.”
