[Pittsburgh, PA] — Today, PennEnvironment announced the endorsement of long time environmental advocate Erika Staaf Strassburger in the special election to replace Dan Gilman in Pittsburgh’s 8th City Council District.
“When it comes to protecting our environment, there’s no one better than Erika,” stated David Masur, PennEnvironment Executive Director. “For nearly a decade, Erika put her money where her mouth is when it comes to protecting our environment and health–now, and for our kids and future generations. She’s a perfect candidate to represent the residents of Pittsburgh’s 8th City Council District.”
Ms. Strassburger will certainly bring this expertise to bear when representing the 8th district. The top issue on Ms. Strassburger’s website is clean water and the environment, noting that “Clean Water is a Human Right” and noting how she plans to address the chronic issues facing PWSA. Erika is also a board member at Conservation Consultants, Inc (CCI), which helps Pittsburghers reduce their energy consumption, in turn reducing their carbon footprint and air pollution, and saving consumers’ money on their energy bills.
“Besides being a great advocate and champion for our environment, Erika is also incredibly talented when it comes to so many of the skills that will make her a very successful councilperson,” noted Masur. “She’s incredibly smart, an exceptional listener and communicator, hard working, and always has a great attitude–even when the going gets tough. I’ve worked with elected officials and candidates from every walk of life and all political stripes over my twenty years of non-profit advocacy in Pennsylvania, and few are as exceptional and able as Erika.”
“Erika has walked the walk in so many ways, and her priorities are clear. We know she will be an excellent ally and advocate for Pittsburghers who want clean air, clean water, and great open spaces when she is elected to City Council,” said Adam Garber, Deputy Director of PennEnvironment.
“At PennEnvironment, we hope that our endorsement can serve as a critical tool to help voters sort through the barrage of advertising and competing campaign messages to learn which candidates will best represent their desire for and right to a healthy environment,” continued Masur.
