PennEnvironment Appointed to Shapiro Transition Team on the Environment
Governor-Elect Josh Shapiro has appointed PennEnvironment's Executive Director David Masur to advise the transition team on environmental issues.

As the deputy director with PennEnvironment, Ashleigh oversees campaigns to protect clean air and clean water in Pennsylvania. She brings more than 15 years of experience in community organizing and government to her work to win policy change and hold decision-makers, agencies and polluters accountable. Most recently, she worked with colleagues and coalition partners to enact a ban on single-use plastic bags in Pittsburgh.
Prior to joining PennEnvironment in 2018, Ashleigh served as a chief of staff in Pittsburgh City Council and organized clean air campaigns for Clean Water Action and the Clean Air Task Force. Ashleigh lives in the Pittsburgh region, where she enjoys gardening and engaging with her community.

New report spotlights Erie Bayfront Parkway expansion among national highway boondoggles
ERIE, Pa. -- On the heels of Labor Day weekend, one of the year’s busiest weekends on the roads, PennEnvironment Research & Policy Center, PennPIRG Education Fund and Frontier Group released a new report on Thursday that exposes highway boondoggles across the country that, if completed, would not only waste billions of dollars but also deepen our country’s harmful dependence on cars. The report includes the $100 million redesign of the already controversial Bayfront Parkway in Erie that would attract more speeding traffic to the city’s developing bayfront while failing to meet community demands for better pedestrian access from downtown and neighborhoods.
