PennEnvironment's Flora Cardoni hosts a Zoom conversation with Congresswomen Mary Gay Scanlon, Madeleine Dean, and Chrissy Houlahan about the Inflation Reduction Act

PennEnvironment’s Flora Cardoni was honored and excited to host a webinar to discuss the climate benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act with three of Pennsylvania’s strongest environmental champions in Congress–U.S. Reps Madeleine Dean (Montgomery County), Chrissy Houlahan (Chester and Berks counties) and Mary Gay Scanlon (Delaware County and Philadelphia).

The members of Congress talked to hundreds of Pennsylvanians about the details of the bill, what it means for our climate and clean energy, and how everyone can take advantage of tax credits and incentives in their own lives.

They also discussed why they personally care about climate action: “I have four reasons why I care about protecting our planet and our environment,” said Rep. Dean. “They are Aubrey, Ella, Sawyer, and Scottie – my four grandchildren, and all of our children and grandchildren. That’s why I’m excited that we’re actually finally taking very, very important steps.” They stressed the importance of organizing and advocacy in getting this bill to the finish line, with Rep Houlahan assuring the audience “it matters, your advocacy matters, it’s making a difference and moving the needle.” And they highlighted the work still ahead to make sure Pennsylvanians have a livable climate to call home, with Rep. Scanlon emphasizing that “[the Inflation Reduction Act] is significant, but it is clearly far from enough or far from the final word. And that’s where we need folks who are interested in the environment to continue to press, both in terms of policy suggestions, advocacy, and at the ballot box, because that’s what it’s going to take to get it done.”
