No Rain in PA?

A record-breaking dry stretch across much of Pennsylvania has residents asking: what can we do to save water when there is no rain in PA?

All across Pennsylvania, the state’s residents are experiencing a record-breaking dry spell.

Philly hasn’t had rain in 35 days and counting. This is the longest stretch without rain since record keeping on the topic began 153 years ago in 1871.

And Philly isn’t alone: October was the Lehigh Valley’s driest month on record, and Harrisburg had less than half an inch of rainfall in October.

Currently, DEP has declared a drought watch for more than half of the state. Two counties and counting are under a drought warning. And at the time of publishing this post, rain isn’t forecasted in our near future.

Sadly, we often don’t think about conserving water until it’s too late and we’ve reached the stage of a drought watch or warning. But conserving water can and should be on our minds year in and year out, not just when facing extreme drought conditions.

What can we do to save water when there is no rain in PA?

Luckily, a bipartisan proposal pending in the state legislature would help Pennsylvanians conserve nearly 10 BILLION gallons of water annually within five years.

This legislation’s concept is fairly simple: ensure that many commonly used appliances use water conservation technology that exists today, if it’s going to be sold in Pennsylvania. By taking this commonsense step for appliances like faucets, toilets, urinals, and showerheads Pennsylvanians could save more than 18 billion gallons of water annually by 2040. This is enough water to meet the needs of nearly 340,000 Pennsylvania households over a year.

A simple way to help these savings become reality is asking your state legislators to add their names to these important water conservation measures. Send them a message today asking them to help Pennsylvanians conserve water by supporting these much-needed water-saving standards (HB 1615 and SB 755):
