Fixing electronics like cell phones reduces waste and helps the environment

Exciting news! The Pennsylvania House Commerce Committee held a vote today on a proposal supporting the Right to Repair for electronic devices (House Bill 1512). The bill passed by a bipartisan vote of 15-11 and now goes to the full state house for consideration.

HB 1512, sponsored by Representative Kyle Mullins, would give Pennsylvanians the right to repair their own electronic devices. When our cell phones, computers, televisions, and other household electronics break, we often have no choice but to junk them. And with electronic waste already the fastest growing waste stream in the country, it’s crucial that we extend the lives of our electronic devices and keep them working for longer. HB 1512 would give consumers and businesses access to the parts, tools, and information needed to fix consumer electronic devices across Pennsylvania. It’s great to see our legislators taking the lead on this important issue and working to pass bipartisan legislation that is good for the environment, good for our wallets, and good for Pennsylvanians.
