Take Action

Texas Power Switch is an Environment Texas-endorsed program that helps residents (in the parts of Texas where electricity was deregulated like Houston and DFW) save money on electricity by switching suppliers as a group. When you sign up, you’ll get free help navigating the complex energy market to potentially lower your electric bills. All plans include 100% renewable energy sources, which is not only good for your wallet but also for the environment. The more people who sign up, the better deal the Texas Power Switch team can secure.

Sign up for Texas Power Switch today for free, with no obligation. It’s a straightforward process that can bring significant savings to your household!

How it works

  • Sign Up: Register for the program by October 22, 2024, if your current electricity contract ends between November 5, 2024, and January 28, 2025. Even if you’ve participated in the program before, please register again for the current auction.
  • Rate Announcement: Texas Power Switch will conduct a reverse auction, and the provider with the cheapest rates will offer you a new electricity contract.
  • Personal Offer: Residents will receive a personal offer by November 5, 2024, following the auction.
  • Accept or Decline: You can accept or decline the offer by November 27, 2024. If you accept, Texas Power Switch will handle the switchover with your new energy provider.

Texas Power Switch is an important tool to get more renewable energy onto the electric grid and reduce pollution. As our report Clean Energy Pathways found, electricity plans which purchase renewable energy credits have helped drive the development of renewable energy, making “renewable energy more affordable and economical – helping to accelerate the rapid adoption of clean energy technologies.”

Environment Texas does not receive any financial gain from promoting Texas Power Switch. We promote Texas Power Switch because switching consumers to low-cost renewable energy plans helps us achieve our goal of clean air, clean water, and a livable climate in Texas.
