DALLAS – Texans will be able to save the 8.25% sales tax on select Energy Star and WaterSense products, as well as water retaining landscaping items including plants and soaker drip irrigation, from Saturday through Memorial Day. There is no limit on the number of qualifying items shoppers can buy and they do not need to give the seller an exemption certificate to buy items tax free.
By using less electricity and water these efficient products not only save consumers money but help to ease strain on the grid and reduce planet-warming carbon emissions which contribute to extreme weather events like heat waves and wildfires.
Visit the Texas Comptroller’s website for a full list of qualifying water-efficient and energy-efficient products.
In response, Environment Texas Advocate Ian Seamans issued the following statement:
“We may see record heat this summer, which will mean surging demand for electricity and water, and thus more air pollution and strain on our lakes and rivers. But we can all do our part to help by buying efficient products which still keep us cool and our gardens watered. This sales tax holiday is a great way to not only save money this weekend but also throughout the year as these efficient products do more with less.
Thanks to new federal tax credits through the Inflation Reduction Act, you can also save money any day of the year on many of these efficient products.”
