Tell TX officials to monitor oil and gas air pollution
Oil and gas operations release pollutants that harm our air quality and that can be hazardous to human health. These pollutants include methane, which has a climate warming effect, as well as volatile organic compounds that contribute to ground level ozone. Oil and gas facilities also release particulate matter and hazardous air pollutants like cancer-causing benzene.
Despite these harms, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) collects barely any air monitoring data in these oil and gas production regions, leaving us guessing at the levels of harmful pollution we breathe. TCEQ does not operate any ozone monitors in either the Eagle Ford Shale or the Permian Basin, despite huge amounts of ozone precursor emissions from oil and gas and only a few monitors for other harmful oil and gas pollution like particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.
Sign our petition to tell TCEQ to increase monitoring for ozone and other harmful pollution in the Eagle Ford Shale and Permian Basin.
