Wind power

America has an almost unlimited resource of wind blowing off our coasts and across our lands, and we can use it to power more of our lives.

Wind power is a key ingredient for a clean and renewable energy future. It’s a huge new harvest from America’s fields, farms and coasts. America produced enough wind energy to power 35 million typical homes in 2021 – 2.7 times as much wind energy as in 2012.

Statement: Biden acts on Gulf offshore wind

Metzger issued the following statement in response to the President's announcement: "It's exciting to see offshore wind in the Gulf getting closer to reality. With strong winds in the evenings when we need energy the most, offshore wind in the Gulf of Mexico would greatly complement Texas’ onshore renewable energy resources, help bolster our shaky electric grid, and help our environment. With shallow, warm water, smaller waves, and existing offshore infrastructure and expertise, we're well suited to develop this abundant, clean resource. I applaud the President and the Interior Department for moving forward with developing this incredible resource."

Statement: California Energy Commission releases big offshore wind target

As California seeks to secure a 100% renewable electricity grid to address the climate crisis, the California Energy Commission (CEC) has released their initial Offshore Wind report with goals of 3,000 MW of offshore wind energy by 2030 and 10,000 to 15,000 MW by 2045 with a potential of 20,000 MW by 2050, with sufficient technological improvements.
