AUSTIN - The U.S. House of Representatives voted 228-206 last night to build a bridge to a brighter future by passing the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act on Friday. This major bipartisan package will improve Texas' transportation and power infrastructure and ensure clean water over the coming decades. Up next: a budget reconciliation bill that would help the U.S. stall climate change and clean up our environment. The Build Back Better Act includes clean energy tax incentives and other investments to tackle pollution.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its first global assessment of the science of global warming since 2013 on Monday. The report details the potential catastrophic impacts on the world's oceans, ice caps and land in the coming decades if we fail to rapidly reduce emissions and meet our climate goals.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a legislative package on Thursday that would improve water infrastructure, protect drinking water, and repair and expand our transportation system. The package combined several bills, including the Water Quality Protection and Job Creation Act of 2021 and the AQUA Act, under the umbrella of the INVEST in America Act.
In a bipartisan vote, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee advanced the “Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America) Act” early Thursday morning. As part of that “new vision,” in a departure from past transportation bills, it emphasizes fixing existing infrastructure before building new highways.
AUSTIN - At least 35 percent of funds dedicated for air quality programs will now instead go to road-building, under legislation sent Tuesday to Gov. Greg Abbott. The raid on clean air funds was a lowlight in a legislative session where the environment otherwise fared well amid an onslaught of efforts to weaken protections.
