Texas House backs green solutions to water problems

AUSTIN — The Texas House gave final approval today to legislation to fund rain gardens, green roofs, constructed wetlands and other “nature-based” strategies for reducing water pollution, flooding and impacts of drought. The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) has pledged to dedicate up to $4.5 million per year for the new Water Resource Protection Program.

New report shows Texas has huge offshore wind potential

AUSTIN - Offshore wind could provide Texas with 166% of its electricity needs, according to a new report released today by Environment Texas Research & Policy Center. Last year, the federal government identified Port Isabel and Port Arthur as viable sites for offshore wind and selected the two Texas towns for more detailed cost analysis. Environment Texas called on the state of Texas to form a task force to begin siting offshore wind.

Federal Judge again orders record penalty against Exxon for thousands of Clean Air Act Violations

HOUSTON – In yet another loss for ExxonMobil Corporation in a historic and long-running environmental enforcement case, U.S. District Court Judge David Hittner has imposed a $14.25 million penalty to punish the company for violating the federal Clean Air Act at its Baytown, Texas, refinery and chemical plant complex over 3,651 days over a period of eight years.

WASHINGTON -- As part of an executive order, President Joe Biden is expected to announce Wednesday a stop on all new drilling in public lands and waters. The president will also set a goal of protecting 30 percent of U.S. lands and oceans by the year 2030.
