Environmental leaders ask Biden to act on Permian Basin air pollution

Environment Texas, as part of three dozen environmental groups, wrote to President Biden this week asking him to take action to address serious air pollution problems in the Permian Basin area of west Texas and New Mexico. For several years now, the Permian Basin has experienced soaring concentrations of groundlevel ozone pollution. In light of this, the Environmental Protection Agency has signaled that the Permian Basin should be designated a “nonattainment area,” a designation that would bring the region into compliance with ozone standards and restore clean air. We are so grateful for the EPA’s proposal and urge the Administration ensures it follows through with it.
