Congress convenes for Farm Bill conference

Federal Court Rejects the Administration’s Suspension of the Clean Water Rule

Today, a federal court in South Carolina invalidated the Trump administration’s attempt to delay the effective date of the Clean Water Rule by two years.  The Clean Water Rule helps protect drinking water sources for 117 million Americans, as well as thousands of wetlands. Today’s court decision means that the Clean Water Rule is once again law of the land in all 26 states where temporary injunctions from other litigation are not in effect.

Businesses Join Effort to Defend the Clean Water Rule in Court

Businesses from 30 states urged a federal court in North Dakota to uphold the Clean Water Rule, in an amicus brief filed by Environment America Research & Policy Center and the National Environmental Law Center.  From outfitters to brewers to farmers, many of these businesses depend on clean water for their livelihoods. In addition, 62 local officials also signed onto a separate amicus brief also filed by the groups.

Environment America praises U.S. Senate for passing clean environmental spending bill, encourages conference committee to keep out anti-environmental provisions

Today, the U.S. Senate passed the fiscal year 2019 Interior-Environment Appropriations bill, a spending bill that rejects anti-environmental policy provisions and cuts to environmental programs.

Lead contamination in schools’ drinking water: worse than previously thought

Lead contamination in our schools is more pervasive than previously thought, according to water testing data from 20 states published in a national interactive map by Environment America and U.S. PIRG today. As schools begin summer break, the groups urge public officials to take swift action to Get the Lead Out of schools’ drinking water.
