More offshore wind could come to the mid-Atlantic
Lease areas off the coast of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia have potential to power up to 2.2 million homes with renewable energy

The Department of the Interior announced it plans to hold an offshore wind energy lease sale in the Central Atlantic on August 14th.
Wind turbines in this area off the coast of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia could generate up to 6.3 gigawatts of clean, renewable energy and power up to 2.2 million homes, according to the agency.
“Offshore wind is poised to play a leading role in the mid-Atlantic’s energy future,” said Johanna Neumann, senior director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy. “Winds on the ocean blow strongest during the winter and at night, making it the perfect complement to solar energy.”
