Millions of Americans are exposed to unhealthy levels of air pollution, but it doesn’t have to be that way. 20,719 voices spoke up for clean air today, submitting comments to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in support of the updated Cross-State Air Pollution Rule. Also referred to as the “Good Neighbor Plan,” the rule will crack down on smog pollution for the millions of Americans who live downwind from power plants and industrial facilities.
Smog is formed when industrial emissions from power plants, factories and other sources react with heat and sunlight in the atmosphere. When inhaled, smog irritates our airways, increasing our risk of serious heart and lung diseases. The rule requires power plants and other polluting facilities to install and effectively use modern pollution control technologies that will clean up our air and save lives.
