Rhode Island Senate passes 100% renewable energy commitment

Yesterday, The Rhode Island Senate approved legislation to formalize and accelerate Rhode Island’s commitment to a renewable energy future. The bill, sponsored by Senate President President Ruggerio (2022-S 2274A) would require that 100 percent of all electricity sold in Rhode Island be generated from renewable sources by 2033 – the most ambitious timeline of any state in the nation.

Rhode Island is home to America’s first offshore wind farm and has abundant renewable energy potential. Wind power alone could power the state eight times over

“If passed, this bill will launch Rhode Island into the upper echelon of America’s clean energy leadership states,” said Johanna Neumann, Senior Director of the Campaign for 100% Renewable Energy for Environment Rhode Island.
