More rooftop solar, less red tape
In many communities, it can take days, weeks or even months to get a straightforward rooftop solar installation approved. It doesn't need to be this way.
San Antonio continues its role as a Solar Superstar today when the city’s municipally-owned utility CPS Energy committed to 300MW of solar, enough to power more than 50,000 homes. San Antonio is already a solar leader. It qualified as a “Solar Superstar” in Environment America Research & Policy Center’s recent Shining Cities report, ranking 6th in the country for the amount of installed solar per capita. Today’s announcement is the first move in an initiative which seeks to add 900 megawatts of solar to replace some of the utility’s existing older, dirtier power generation capacity.
“Solar energy helps San Antonio combat global warming, reduce local air pollution, strengthen the electric grid and stabilize energy costs for residents. It’s exciting to see CPS Energy recognize its incredible value with continued investments in this clean, virtually limitless energy source,” said Environment Texas Executive Director Luke Metzger.
