RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia state Sen. Jennifer McClellan, who Environment Virginia endorsed, will be heading to the U.S. House of Representatives after winning the special election in Virginia’s 4th Congressional District on Tuesday night.

In response, Environment Virginia’s state director, Elly Boehmer Wilson, released the following statement:

“Virginia’s 4th Congressional District is passing the torch from one environmental champion to another. Virginians from Richmond down to the North Carolina state line have been fortunate to be represented by an environmental leader for the past six years. The death of Representative Donald McEachin left big shoes to fill. We endorsed Jennifer McClellan because she is the best person to carry on McEachin’s legacy. After McClellan’s decisive victory, we are excited for her to bring her experience and leadership to Congress.

“As a state legislator, McClellan has a strong history of securing big wins for Virginia’s environment, including leading the effort to pass our state’s commitment to a timeline for generating 100% of our electricity from clean energy sources. We extend our congratulations to Representative-elect McClellan and look forward to working with her to secure wins for our environment in her new role.”
