Northam announces huge conservation investments in outgoing budget

This week Gov. Ralph Northam announced his outgoing final biennial budget. The budget, which will need to pass the General Assembly next year, features historic and significant investments in conservation and the environment including a historic $1 billion for Chesapeake Bay work.
Highlights of the budget breakdown include:

$286 million for the Virginia Natural Resources Commitment Fund, which helps farmers and landowners to implement clean water and conservation procedures

$233.6 million to improve water quality by fixing old, failing sewer systems which regularly pollute Virginia’s rivers and waterways

$30 million for the Virginia Conservation Fund to maintain and grow our public lands and treasured parks
-
$233 million for VDOT for statewide planning and development of multi-use trails

This is a budget that matches the urgency of the environmental issues we are facing and tops off an impressive commitment to conservation from Gov. Northam. Gov. Northam has been a champion for the environment during his four years in the executive mansion and we thank him for his leadership through the end of his term.
We look forward to working with our leaders in the General Assembly in passing a budget that includes these historic investments in Virginia’s special places.”
