The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is one of Virginia’s top global warming solutions and is currently under attack. We need you to show your support for RGGI and protect this critical program.

In 2020, Virginia joined RGGI and since then the program has not only reduced carbon emissions but has also generated hundreds of millions of dollars for resiliency and energy efficiency projects across the Commonwealth.

Despite the General Assembly defending the program this year and last, the Youngkin administration has taken regulatory steps to withdraw Virginia from RGGI. The legality of this is debatable because in order to to join and participate in RGGI, the program needed to be approved by the General Assembly. An argument can be made that it must follow that route to end our participation. Whether this saga plays out in the courts or not, Virginians can weigh in to defend the program.

The first way to weigh in is to provide testimony in person on March 16th at 2pm in Richmond. You can find information for this meeting here.

The second way is to provide public comments in support of RGGI. You can do this here. Remember to make it personal and unique. Comments must be submitted by March 31st.

It is important that we make it clear to the Air Pollution Control Board that Virginians want clean air, a livable climate and our participation in RGGI. Let’s defend our climate progress in Virginia by halting this attack and showing Virginians support climate action!
