I find great satisfaction in being able to contribute a little to their fight

I grew up in San Antonio, graduated high school in 1962, and studied engineering at the University of Texas Austin. I was working at NASA when we landed on the moon, and I began to wonder: Was I born in the best place on the planet at the best time in history? It was possible, but statistically improbable. I had to see other places and people to figure out if it were true, so I left engineering to teach high school, which gave me three months every year to travel. I realized that the world was indeed larger than Texas. I became interested in anthropology, evolution and our miraculously complex web of life. I realized that the most important challenge of our time is maintaining our planet’s integrity. When I see the dedicated work and real successes of Environment Texas with people like Luke Metzger, I know that the good fight goes on, and I find great satisfaction in being able to contribute a little to their fight.
