These problems are not impossible

Clean water

I first realized that citizens need to stand up to powerful interests when I saw the heartbreaking environmental destruction after Duke Energy’s Dan River coal ash spill up in North Carolina. Coal ash is a big concern for me, and more broadly clean water and habitat protection. As a birder, you can see how all of the pressures—habitat loss, pesticides, water pollution and more—add up to seriously harm our planet and the animals that rely on them. I support Environment Georgia because I like the local aspect. It’s really great to know that the dollars we give are being spent to make our state better. State Director Jennette Gayer has done an excellent job of giving me hope. The stories of victories that she shares are inspiring and mean these problems are not impossible, and that together, we can make a difference.
