Why I support Environment Georgia

Michael "Pic" Petelle
Member, Environment Georgia

I grew up in rural southwestern Michigan and spent summers from the time I was eight until I was out of college working on fruit farms where I was exposed to way too many pesticides. I follow the work of many environmental organizations, but saw that Environment Georgia was doing a great job of working Georgia’s legislative members and forming coalitions with other groups to push for positive action specific to Georgia’s environmental issues. Their work includes organizing against the piles of toxic coal ash that threaten the Chattahoochee River not too far from my home. It’s easy to lose sight of the natural environment that supports us: It provides us with fresh water, oxygen, food, and a moderate, livable climate. If we don’t protect the environment then we can’t protect its natural services that are essential to our survival.
