Dear Mr. Paul Michel:

Thank you for your swift action to create the Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary. The region off the California coast is home to sea otters, kelp forests and deep sea areas that are still unexplored.

We support Sub-Alternative 5b; the Initial Boundary Alternative combined with the Gaviota Coast Extension, the original boundary proposed by the Northern Chumash Tribe. This is the only proposal to create a contiguous series of sanctuaries from Monterey Bay to the Channel Islands.

It is vital that this incredibly biodiverse region receives permanent protection from oil drilling and mining as well as the opportunity for additional resources to manage and protect this ocean life.
